Sundbåtklokka Rapp - Blue

Sale price3.490,00 NOK

The world's oldest public transport company
The Sundbåtselskapet has a long and proud history that reflects the city's development and the need for transportation across the islands in Kristiansund.

In 1875, Kristiansund Dampbåtsamlag was established to transport goods and people between the islands in Kristiansund, and Sundbåten is today the world's oldest public transport company.

In the year 1943-44, the Sundbåtvesen transported 2,635,900 passengers, which is still the annual record. At that time, special coins, oval tokens, were used as payment on the Sundbåten. The back of the clock is a copy of the token that was used as payment on the Sundbåten until 1951.

Von Doren is proud to present this watch that is a tribute to the Sundbåten Rapp, produced in collaboration with KKS.

A portion of the sale proceeds will go to the Sundbåten RAPP Association.

Inspiration

A unique and important part of Norwegian cultural history.

The Sundbåtselskapet has a long and proud history that mirrors the growth of Kristiansund and the need for transport between its islands.

In 1875, Kristiansund Dampbåtsamlag was founded to carry people and goods across the sound, and Sundbåten is today recognized as the world’s oldest continuously operating public transport service. In 1943–44, the Sundbåt system carried 2,635,900 passengers in a single year – a record that still stands. At that time, special oval tokens were used as fare on board. The back of the watch is a faithful reproduction of the token that was used as payment on Sundbåten until 1951.

Von Doren is proud to present this watch as a tribute to the Sundbåten RAPP, created in collaboration with KKS. A portion of the proceeds from each watch will be donated to the Sundbåten RAPP Association.
